Mariah Carey Handled Her Wardrobe Malfunction Like a Total Pro During Live Performance

Mariah Carey’s glam squad leapt into action when the singer suffered a wardrobe malfunction during a live performance.

This week, Carey performed at Moet & Chandon’s holiday celebration in New York City. The musician was wearing a black slip dress by Jonathan Simkhai, which featured a chain-link strap that came “untethered” during the song—and the whole thing was captured on video.

Carey was performing when her strap suddenly disconnected and fell to her side. Right on cue, stylist Wilfredo Rosado jumped onto the stage and tried to reconnect the strap. Her hair stylist, Danielle Priano, and her makeup artist, Kristofer Buckle, also used it as an opportunity to do touch-ups.

But the show had to go on. Carey continued to sing and even changed the lyrics to: “We need to get this dress together.”

Later that night, Carey addressed the wardrobe malfunction on her Instagram Story, saying, “My gosh! It was very, very close to being a full-on scandal, but we made it work. This part broke—came untethered, I should say—but we got it back and everybody was super professional.”

The singer also brushed off her freestyle lyrics, adding, “It is what it was, it’s nothing great. But let me just tell you this—we made it.”

The Queen of Christmas has done it again.
