Mariah Carey Recreates ‘Dreamlover’ Music Video Look for 30th Anniversary (and It’s Like a Day Hasn’t Passed Since 1993)

Taking us back to 1993

30 years have gone by since Mariah Carey, 54, dropped the music video for her single, “Dreamlover.” To celebrate the anniversary of the release, the Grammy Award winner recreated her entire look from the video and she looks as fabulous as ever.

On Monday, the mother of two shared a photo slideshow on Instagram, where she is sporting a similar outfit to the one worn in the 1993 music video. While smiling at the camera, Carey dons an oversized plaid shirt, black pants and wavy pigtails.

The “All I Want for Christmas” singer wrote in the caption, “Homage to the Dreamlover video (sans the grassy fields),” alongside a laughing emoji.

Like the rest of us, Carey’s followers couldn’t get over the throwback look. One person wrote under the post, “Instantly transported back to 1993. You’re timeless MC!” Another supporter commented, “Looking the same age as when you filmed the Dreamlover video, too, I know that’s right.”

The legendary singer also released an exclusive first clip from her new Dreamlover mini-documentary. In the clip, Carey recalls how she had to swim in cold water in the first scenes of the music video.

“I wanted to go into this waterfall because I was like ‘Oh my gosh, this thing is amazing.’ You barely see it, but it’s at the beginning of the video,” she explains. “But it was freezing, I’ll never forget that. And when I see some of the footage, I say ‘People were swimming in that freaking water?’”

Carey adds, “We had to shoot it again because we didn’t get what we needed.”

Once a queen, always a queen.
