Tupac’s Never-Before-Seen Jailhouse Letter to Madonna Needs to Be the Next ‘Poetic Justice’
In 2015, Madonna revealed that she and legendary late rapper Tupac Shakur dated before his death. Now, a never-before-seen letter from Tupac to the pop star reveals that he had nothin' but love for her.
TMZ released Pac’s letter to Madge on Wednesday, and the heartfelt prose details intimate and surprising insights into the duo's mysterious relationship. At the time the letter was written—January 15, 1995—Shakur was incarcerated for sexual abuse charges and in emotional tatters over the couple’s split.
Addressed to “M,” the letter references a fight the couple had that ended their relationship. “...[It was] out of hurt and a natural instinct to strike back and defend my heart & ego that I said a lot of things,” Tupac wrote.
He then goes on to express how he was intimidated by Madonna's status and sexual prowess, “Please understand my previous position as that of a young man with limited experience with [an] extremely famous sex symbol.”
Throughout the handwritten letter the rapper apologizes profusely and even wrote, “I never meant to hurt you.”
Shakur's remaining written sentiments are both heartfelt and eloquent, just like the verses that catapulted him to stardom before his shocking death.
The letter will go up for auction from July 19 to 28 at Gotta Have Rock and Roll, and is expected to sell for more than $100,000.
