Last Night’s Episode of ‘Riverdale’ Featured Luke Perry Doing What He Does Best

We still can’t get over the fact that our first-ever imaginary boyfriend, Luke Perry, sadly passed away earlier this week. However, yesterday’s episode of Riverdale included a cameo by the late actor, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Last night, the popular series returned to The CW after a weeklong hiatus, and while we wish the episode featured more than a two-minute appearance, we can’t deny that it showed Perry doing what he does best: being a hero.

Here’s what you need to know: In Chapter Forty-Nine of Riverdale, titled “Fire Walk with Me,” Archie (KJ Apa) befriends an orphan named Ricky. When he learns that he’s living in a cubby à la Harry Potter, Archie brings him home and lets him live in the garage. He takes him under his wing, teaches him how to box and even gives him his letterman jacket from Riverdale High.

When Archie receives a call from a social worker, he learns that Ricky’s real name is Ricardo De Santos—as in, Joaquin’s (Rob Raco) brother.

Just then, Ricky grabs a knife and points it at Archie because—you guessed it—he was playing him all along. Right when he slashes Archie, Fred’s (Perry) voice can be heard from the other side of the door, saying, “Son?”

When Fred opens the door, Ricky runs off, resulting in a priceless father-son moment.

The episode aired just two days after news broke about Perry’s death. In addition to pausing production on Riverdale, series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is dedicating all future episodes to the late actor.

BRB, watching the series from season one. Riverdale returns to The CW next Wednesday, March 13, at 8 p.m.
