Why Is There Caution Tape All Over the ‘Live with Kelly & Ryan’ Set?

We can’t help but laugh at this behind-the-scenes video from Live with Kelly and Ryan, which highlights the crew’s secret to maneuvering around set.

Earlier today, producers shared footage from a recent taping of the popular talk show. The video was shot from behind the row of cameras, giving us a unique look at how the show is produced.

The video features several cameras that are facing the co-hosts, Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest. The middle ones are wrapped in caution tape—although it may look suspicious, it actually serves a greater purpose.

You see, the cameras are attached to TV monitors, which are directed toward the co-hosts. The devices probably act as teleprompters for Ripa and Seacrest, and since they appear to be propped up, the caution tape likely acts as a visual warning, so no one bumps into them.

Ripa and Seacrest just recently resumed normal production on Live. While the pair were hosting virtual segments from their own homes due to the coronavirus pandemic, production found ways to abide by social distancing guidelines.

This includes wearing masks and making Ripa and Seacrest sit six feet apart during the taping. Producers later edit the footage to make it seem like they’re next to each other, which is why Seacrest’s hand kept disappearing during the premiere episode.

One thing’s for sure: Ripa and Seacrest are total naturals in front of the camera(s).
