Lin-Manuel Miranda just dropped the mic and announced he’ll reprise his role as Founding Father Alexander Hamilton one last time for a limited run of Hamilton in Puerto Rico.
The creator and star of the Tony and Pulitzer-winning musical took the stage at the University of Puerto Rico today and revealed the hit show will run from January 8 to 27, 2019, at the school’s Teatro UPR.
A native New Yorker, Miranda is of Puerto Rican descent and shared that he’s honored to bring his magnum opus to his ancestral home. He said, “Bringing [Hamilton] to Puerto Rico is a dream that I’ve had since we first opened at the Public Theater in 2015.”
Miranda continued, “When I last visited the island, a few weeks before Hurricane Maria, I had made a commitment to not only bring the show to Puerto Rico but also return again to the title role. In the aftermath of Maria, we decided to expedite the announcement of the project to send a bold message that Puerto Rico will recover and be back in business, stronger than ever.”
The Teatro UPR was severely damaged by Hurricane Maria and is currently undergoing repairs in preparation for Hamilton’s 2019 arrival.
Leave it to Lin-Manuel Miranda to blow us all away.
