‘Life Itself’ Is a Realistic Love Story the Instagram Age Desperately Needs
In the age of saccharine #MCM (Man Crush Monday) posts and over-the-top proposal shoots, it’s easy to forget that life can get messy.
Thankfully, the trailer for This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman’s brand-new Amazon film Life Itself is here to remind us that as much as relationships are romantic and passionate, they don’t come without struggle.
A multigenerational story marred by family tragedy, yet surrounded by warmth and hope, Life Itself centers on the relationship of the young and very much in love Abby (Olivia Wilde) and Will (Oscar Isaac). We follow them from college to marriage, to the birth of their first child and onward into the complexities of parenthood.
While they may not be the Noah and Allie (from the Notebook, duh) that we cut our idealistic teeth on, they leave us with no shortage of romantic gestures and moments that cut to the core. Throw in some unrealistic expectations (“I wanna live a big, great, fantastical life”), speedy engagements and a certain candid mother-in-law, and there you have Life Itself.
Prepare to watch their true to life (itself) love story unfold in theaters starting Friday, September 21. No glossy Instagram filter required.
