‘A Star Is Born’ Already Won a Grammy & Lady Gaga Couldn’t Be Happier

It’s shaping up to be a big night for Lady Gaga.

The 61st annual Grammy Awards haven’t even begun, but the 32-year-old singer is already celebrating wins for the A Star Is Born song “Shallow” and the eponymous song from her Joanne album.

The Recording Academy announced this afternoon that Gaga and co-star Bradley Cooper’s original title won the award for Best Song Written for Visual Media, and “Joanne” snagged the Best Pop Solo Performance. The now eight-time Grammy winner responded to the exciting news on Twitter with a special message to her makeup artist.

“I’m not going to be able to wear any makeup tonight,” she wrote. “We just won our first of Grammy nominations for the night. I’m in tears with honor and gratitude. Thank you @RecordingAcad #Grammys #Grammy and my co-writers and Bradley I love you so much thank you.”

“Shallow” is also nominated for several other awards at this evening’s ceremony, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Lady Gaga penned the song along with producers Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt.

It’s expected that “Goddess Gaga” will perform the hit song on the Grammys’ stage tonight. Sadly, however, she’ll belt out the ballad alone, as her 44-year-old co-star is currently in London for the BAFTA Awards. (And thank goodness because A Star Is Born was honored with the award for Best Original Music there.) Nonetheless, the IRL Jackson and Ally will reunite to perform “Shallow” at the 91st annual Oscars on Sunday, February 24, on ABC at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.

In addition to her awards for the A Star Is Born tune and “Joanne,” Gaga previously won Grammys for “Bad Romance, “Poker Face, The Game, The Fame Monster and Cheek to Cheek.

Something tells us she may need to dust off some more room on the ol’ mantle.
