Today in water-cooler fashion news, Kmart is doing away with its plus-size section...kinda. It's extending the sizes of all of its in-house brands (think Jaclyn Smith and Basic Editions) to a 4x. So the clothes aren't going anywhere; they're just being placed under a new umbrella: "Fabulously Sized."
The name change is getting mixed reviews on the internet, with some women praising the positive, inclusive move and others (like Glamour's Lauren Chan) wondering why a label (and a pandering one at that) is necessary at all.
Regardless of which side you take, you have to give Kmart props for even making the move to begin with. Here's to hoping other retailers follow suit...in concept, not in copywriting.
