King Charles Shares Rare Throwback Photo in Honor of Late Mother Queen Elizabeth
On Sunday, March 19, His Royal Highness honored the late monarch on the U.K.’s Mother’s Day. The royal family shared a photo on their official Instagram page, featuring Queen Elizabeth holding baby Charles in her lap. (This was King Charles’s first Mother’s Day without his mom, who passed away at the age of 96 last September.)
The second photo featured the king’s wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, and her mother, Rosalind Shand, who died at age 72. In the snap, Camilla is standing next to her mother wearing a vibrant red pant suit. Her mom on the other hand, who is smiling from ear to ear, is donning a white polka-dot shirt with large silver earrings.
The caption read, “To all mothers everywhere, and to those who may be missing their mums today, we are thinking of you and wishing you a special #MothersDay.”
This is certainly not the first time King Charles has honored his late mother. Back in November 2022, the monarch unveiled a new statue of his mom at York Minster, which is the largest cathedral in Northern Europe.
The king also gave a touching speech about how he wants to carry on her legacy, saying, “The creation of this statue is also a tribute to the support, affection and prayers that the community of this cathedral, and of this great city, always gave the late queen, and all for which she stood in the life of the nation and the Commonwealth.”
He continued, “The late queen was always vigilant for the welfare of her people during her life. Now her image will watch over what will become Queen Elizabeth Square for centuries to come.”
What a heartfelt tribute to the late queen.
