Will Kevin’s Relapse Result in the Return of a ‘This Is Us’ Fan Favorite?

This week’s episode of This Is Us confirms that Kevin (Justin Hartley) is officially off the wagon. *Cue the dramatic music*

In light of last night’s installment, we recently sat down with Kevin’s on-screen twin, Chrissy Metz (Kate), who’s currently promoting Turbo Tax’s #RealMoneyTalk, to discuss what we can expect to see in the next few episodes.

Kevin isn’t the only Pearson to struggle with alcoholism—both his father, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), and his uncle, Nick (Griffin Dunne), dealt with addiction—and the 38-year-old actress confirmed that Uncle Nicky will play into Kevin’s sobriety.

In fact, she said the latest addition to the Pearson family has “got some stories that we want to know about.” And since Kate is preoccupied with her pregnancy, Metz admitted Nick’s story line has “sort of become Kevin’s thing, for him to get over the stuff between him and Jack.”

However, that doesn’t mean it won’t affect her relationship with Kevin. “You know, they’re still twins at the end of the day, and I think she’ll be a little more receptive to what’s happening. They’ll have to come together in that regard,” she continued. “He’ll have to be honest with her because she’s eventually going to end up calling him out on his stuff—it’ll eventually come out.”

Will Uncle Nicky and Kevin lean on each other as they try to overcome their inner demons? Let’s just hope they forgo any uncle/nephew fishing trips. Too soon?

This Is Us returns to NBC next Tuesday, March 12, at 9 p.m.
