Kerry Washington Shares Rare BTS Pics & Video from Directing Gig on ‘Insecure’

If you watched this week’s episode of Insecure, you may have noticed a familiar name listed as director in the credits: Kerry Washington.

Yesterday, the 35-year-old actress celebrated the major achievement on Instagram, sharing a slideshow of never-before-seen photos from the set of season four, episode nine of the HBO series.

The first pic shows Washington posing with Yvonne Orji (Molly Carter) and Issa Rae (Issa Dee), followed by candid shots of the director in action. The slideshow concludes with a video of the Scandal star laughing before yelling, “And cut!”

She captioned the post, “I have been a huge fan of Insecure since the jump. This is a show that showcases our full humanity. Our beautiful joys and struggles. Our culture, our neighborhoods. Our rich alive blackness. To direct this show was a privilege and delight! I’m so proud to be part of the @insecurehbo family. The world needs more #MomentsOfBlackJoy right now. Rae also shared Washington’s selfie on her personal Instagram account and wrote, “I always credit Scandal, @shondarhimes and @kerrywashington for piquing the industry’s renewed interest in seeing black female leads on television. So it was such a pivotal, full circle treat to have ‘Miss Kerry Babyyyy’ herself impart her wisdom and incredible direction for this episode of Insecure. She is a DIRECTOR and it was so dope to see the entire cast, myself included, willingly challenged by the bar she set. Forever a fan!”
