Kelly Ripa Surprises Son Joaquin with a Whale of a Cake (Literally)

When Kelly Ripa's not hosting her talk show, Live with Kelly and Ryan, she often likes to spend time with her husband and kids, which she documents on social media.

This past weekend, the 51-year-old star made a trip to Michigan, to show support for her son. Ripa's youngest child, Joaquin, 18, was signed to the University of Michigan's wrestling squad last March, and Ripa was one of the many cheering fans at their latest match, as evidenced by her new Instagram Story.

In the photo, Ripa poses in the stands of the stadium, sporting a black Canada Goose jacket and a blue-and-maize-striped University of Michigan hat. However, it's what she's holding that grabbed our eye—the TV personality is pictured with a giant ice cream cake in the shape of a whale. In her caption, she said, “Thank you @carvelicecream. @umichwrestling Winner winner, Fudgie The Whale Dinner!”

Ripa's cake celebrated the fact that the University of Michigan's wrestling team bested the University of Minnesota on Friday, with a final score of 20–14.

In the photo, we can also see that Ripa had “Welcome to A2” written across the Carvel ice cream cake. A2 is a nickname given to Ann Arbor, which is where the University of Michigan is located.

This is just the latest instance of Ripa showing support for Joaquin on her Instagram Story. Only a few days back, the Live host posted a clip of herself drinking out of a festive U of M mug. She held the cup in front of a snowy window, while the school’s fight song played in the background.

Talk about a supportive mom!
