Kelly Ripa Was Forced to Change Her Look on 'Live' This Week—& It Was All Ryan Seacrest's Fault

We’ve gotten pretty used to watching Kelly Ripa wearing glasses on Live with Kelly and Ryan. However, before we got too comfortable, the 50-year-old actress decided to throw us a curveball and debut a never-before-seen pair of specs for yesterday’s morning show.

On Tuesday, the producers of Live shared a behind-the-scenes clip (as usual) of Ripa and her co-host, Ryan Seacrest, leaving their dressing room and making their way to the stage. In the video, the American Idol alum compliments his co-host and pal on her new look. At one point, he turns to the camera and asks “How elegant and smart does Kelly Ripa look today?”

Just a few hours later, Ripa gave us the story behind her new specs, which she apparently had custom made. “These are a pair of Gucci frames that I had my prescription put into because I like the way they fit my face,” she explained in a separate video on Instagram. “As you know, glasses that fit your face is a very hard thing to come by.”

However, that wasn’t the only reason she was in the market for new glasses. Turns out, Seacrest was also a major reason for the change-up from her usual Warby Parkers.

She continued, “And you know my Warby Parkers—I have them fitted to my face—but then certain people who shall remain nameless [she nods he head towards Seacrest] puts them on and stretches them out and now they’re crooked.” Yikes.

The All My Children star paired her new Gucci frames with a black Saint Laurent Top and blue Aleksandre Akhalkatsishvili pants. In the words of Seacrest himself, “elegant and smart,” indeed.
