A day after ABC announced its plans to bring American Idol into its broadcasting fold, rival reality singing competition The Voice said, “K, cool,” and dropped a bombshell announcement of its own.
Kelly Clarkson, the three-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist who got her start on American Idol, will be claiming a big red judge's chair on season 14 of The Voice in 2018.
Clarkson will join forces with the bromantic veteran coaches Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. The trio will also enlist the expertise of a fourth coach—whose name has yet to be released. Job posting reads: must know the difference between singing and sanging (shout-out to our boy CeeLo Green).
Womp womp, sorry, American Idol. NBC waited (almost) a lifetime for a moment like this. And victory is sweet.
