Kate Middleton Gets Real About Becoming a First-Time Mom & Reveals the ‘Gold Dust’ for Parenting a Young Child

Kate Middleton is opening up about her experience becoming a first-time parent.

The Duchess of Cambridge just helped launch Tiny Happy People, a BBC Education initiative providing a range of free digital resources, specifically designed to support parents and carers in developing children’s language from pregnancy to the age of four.

According to Kensington Palace, the 38-year-old royal has been working on the project for several months. She recently met with three families to chat about the program for an interview which aired on July 14—aka today. Lucky for us, we also got a sneak peek at the program in which the duchess talks about the resources offered by THP.

“In the first few months, there’s a huge amount of support from midwives and health visitors and things. But from then onwards there’s a massive gap before they then start school,” Middleton said before talking about the experience of one father, Ryan. "He’s learnt a huge amount from Tiny Happy People. It’s information like that I wish I had had as a first-time mom." She continued, "It’s gold dust, really, for families to be given those tools to be able to use, particularly in those first five years."

According to the website, Tiny Happy People includes resources such as tips and advice, activities and short films about the science and facts behind language development. The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge revealed that they will continue to collaborate on the project, which has been in the works since 2019.

“Families and carers are at the heart of nurturing the next generation of happy, healthy adults, but sometimes it can be hard to know where to turn to for advice,” Middleton said in a statement accompanying the launch. “Tiny Happy People is an invaluable resource which provides parents and carers with support and tips, as well as simple activities to ensure children develop the language skills they need to have the best possible start in life. I am delighted to have been part of its journey and hope families across the UK will enjoy exploring the resources.”

We can’t wait to see what else is to come from Kate and THP.
