Kate Middleton & Prince William Change Their Social Media Entirely in Honor of Prince Philip's Passing

The British royal family announced today that Prince Philip has passed away at the age of 99.

They revealed the sad news in a statement which read, "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

The royal family made the announcement on their website and on social media, where they also shared a picture of the late Duke of Edinburgh.

But the prince's grandson, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton, also immediately paid tribute on their joint social media accounts. In fact, they completely changed their Twitter page, replacing their main photo with one of Prince Philip.

In addition, on both Twitter and Instagram, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge changed their profile pictures. What used to be a family photo is now the royal couple's "cypher"—aka a joint monogram of their individual cyphers—a cursive letter W intertwined with the cursive letter C underneath a crown. The letters obviously stand for William and Catherine, respectively.

This change to their social media accounts is in addition to them sharing the picture and statement that the official royal family accounts first posted. While we have yet to receive any statement from the couple beyond that coming out of Buckingham Palace, we would imagine one will be forthcoming quite soon.
