Here’s Why Kate Middleton Purposely Chose a Low-Key Outfit for Harry & Meghan’s Wedding

Do you remember the cream Alexander McQueen coat dress that Kate Middleton wore to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s May 2018 wedding? Well, there’s a thoughtful reason the Duchess of Cambridge, 38, opted for the low-key ensemble.

Middleton reportedly selected the outfit in the hope of blending in with the rest of the attendees, as Hello! magazine points out. Knowing there would be plenty of interest in her outfit, the royal chose to wear a neutral color, along with a familiar silhouette, to minimize the amount of attention it would receive.

So, what’s the point? It appears Middleton purposely re-wears outfits—or deceptively similar ensembles—when she attends weddings in an attempt to eliminate some hype about her fashion. While it’s not foolproof, it puts more focus on the newlyweds, which is exactly how it should be.

Many outlets wrongly reported that Middleton wore a recycled outfit to Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding. We later learned that Alexander McQueen designed a brand-new coat dress that was nearly identical to one that Middleton has worn on several occasions, including Princess Charlotte’s christening, Trooping the Color and a visit to Belgium.

Still, we weren’t surprised by Middleton’s dress choice, since Alexander McQueen holds a special place in her heart. Not only is it one of her favorite fashion designers, but it’s also the same label that designed the now-famous wedding dress she wore at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

Leave it to Middleton to think of everything.
