Sorry, Folks: Kate Middletons Coronation Ceremony Will Be Super Low-Key

We can’t imagine a British monarchy without Queen Elizabeth, but one day, Prince Charles will take over the throne followed by his son, Prince William. However, don’t hold your breath for an extravagant ceremony when Kate Middleton becomes queen consort.

Much to our dismay, the Duchess of Cambridge’s impending coronation will be much more low-key than Queen Elizabeth’s was in 1953. (If you watch The Crown, you know.)

Why? It all comes down to—you guessed it—royal tradition, which discourages an extravagant celebration so the king can have his moment in the spotlight.

“Unless decided otherwise,” the official website reads, “a queen consort is crowned with the king, in a similar but simpler ceremony.”

We wouldn’t be surprised if Middleton obeys the custom, considering she rarely goes out of her way for attention. But, hey, every girl deserves a princess moment.

We’ll bow down either way.
