Before Anyone Jumps to Conclusions, *This* Is the Reason Kate Middleton Didn't Wear Black to the BAFTAs

At the BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) this past Sundaymany women in attendance chose to wear black in support of the Time’s Up movement. And while everyone was delighted to see Princess Kate, pregnancy glow and all, we were surprised at her choice to don a Jenny Packham gown in a gorgeous dark green instead of black. But it turns out the reason is simple: She isn’t allowed to.

One of the many strict rules and regulations the royal family must follow? They aren’t permitted to show any political affiliation or bias. Wearing all black, we assume, would have been a violation.

So there you have it, folks. It’s possible that the black sash and Mascaro clutch she accessorized with were Middleton’s way of joining the movement. We’re taking a page from Allison Janney: When asked about the princess’s dress, the actress responded, “She’s an extraordinary woman and she can wear whatever she wants.” Amen, sister.
