Julia Roberts’s husband, Danny Moder, knows a thing or two about surprises.
The Oscar winner explained she and her husband planned to get away for five days “with zero contact with the outside world.” But as they settled into the vacation, she began to regret being away from her children, Henry (11) and twins Hazel and Finn (13), on her birthday (which is October 28).
“I thought, ‘Gosh, this is kind of weird.’ Not being all together with the kids, the five of us, for my birthday,” the Homecoming star remembered.
As they ventured into town, Roberts kept in contact with her kids in between their soccer games. She explained, “Other parents had been texting me scores of games and stuff like that, so I knew when all their games were over that they’d call us.”
Then, they stopped at a surf shop and that’s when it happened: “I go to the bathroom in the back of the store, and I come out and Danny’s standing there holding a surfboard, and he goes, ‘What do you think of this one?’ I said, ‘That’s a big board. What is that for?’ He moves it, and all three kids are standing behind it,” she explained.
Roberts, understandably, burst into tears and realized that even the parents texting her soccer game scores knew about the surprise. As she recalled, “Everybody was in on it, and it was so incredible and beautiful. It was pretty spectacular.”
Um, we’d say so. Bravo, Danny.
