T. Swift knows how to steal the show (and melt fans’ hearts). And last night was no different.

Backstory: Jimmy Fallon returned to The Tonight Show on Monday after taking a leave of absence to care for his ill mother. (Sadly, she passed away on November 4.) Through teary eyes, Fallon told the audience how his mother used to squeeze his hand three times before saying “I love you.” While she was in the hospital, Fallon said he held his dying mother’s hand and did the same thing she used to do when he was young: He squeezed her hand three times before telling her he loved her. (Anyone have a Kleenex?)

Don’t throw away that tissue just yet. Swift stopped by to give an emotional performance of “New Year’s Day.” The tearjerker part? The lyrics happen to include the line “You squeeze my hand three times in the back of the taxi / I can tell that it’s gonna be a long road.” Chills.

It was so touching that Fallon could be seen dabbing his tears while she sang. The two embraced after the song, and everyone sobbed. Ugh, look what you made us do, Taylor.
