Alex Rodriguez Admits Jennifer Lopez Hits Better than Him in Backyard Game of Baseball

There may be no “I” in team, but there’s definitely a Jennifer Lopez—at least if your name is Alex Rodriguez.

The engaged couple brought their blended families together—J.Lo’s 12-year-old daughter, Emme, and Rodriguez’s girls, Natasha (15) and Ella (11)—for a backyard game of baseball during this period of social distancing. It was an experience Rodriguez, 44, called a “dream day” with “four powerful young women.”

The former baseball superstar shared a video of his 50-year-old fiancé stepping in first as an umpire then as the team’s star hitter.

He captioned the clip, “Today was a dream day for me. First, I’d like to thank everyone who tuned in to watch my first ARod baseball clinic. I hope you guys learned something and enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed doing it!”

The former New York Yankees player went on encourage fans to carpe that diem: “I mentioned this during the livestream, but do you know what Shakespeare did when he was quarantined because of the plague? He wrote King Lear. You can let this time pass you by, or you can seize it and use it to work on your swing, watch a ton of video, and make yourself a better player. Or a better anything, for that matter.”

For those not looking to improve their game, Rodriguez suggested, “You can also use it to spend quality time with family. We had a blast playing a little baseball in the yard with the four powerful young women in my life.”

He then reminisced about his own relationship with the game, writing, “When I was their age, I couldn’t afford bats, balls and gloves. I was lucky to have great mentors to look out for me, and for the @bgcmiamidade giving me a place to play.”

Rodriguez ended his note by admitting defeat at the hands (or biceps?) of his wife-to-be. “Today, it was so much fun watching them take some cuts. The only depressing part was watching Jen lock in on her swing and launch one. What can’t she do? She even hits better than I do!” He added the hashtag #ShesANatural because J.Lo is seriously good at everything.

Sorry, A-Rod. Better luck next time.
