What’s the Deal with Jennifer Lawrence’s Shape-Shifting Engagement Ring?

Jennifer Lawrence and her brand-new bling have lots of fans saying, wait, what?

A rep for the 28-year-old Oscar winner confirmed on Tuesday that Lawrence and her art gallery director boyfriend, Cooke Maroney, are officially engaged. Great, right? Well, that’s not the cause for confusion.

The couple has been spotted out twice together this week and each time J.Law has inexplicably been rocking a different engagement ring. Let’s backtrack a bit.

The Joy star’s news came to light when she was seen dining with Maroney with an enormous rock on that finger. Onlookers told Page Six, “It was a giant rock. They seemed like they were celebrating and people were talking about it. The ring was very noticeable. They were sitting back in a corner.”

Judging from the photo, that is “a giant rock.” It’s hard to tell, however, what size, color or shape it is because of the graininess of the snap.

Despite this, it was very apparent she was wearing an entirely different ring when she was photographed leaving Il Buco Italian Restaurant in New York the following day with Maroney in tow.

If you scroll through the slideshow, you’ll notice that it appears J.Law swapped out her massive sparkler for a small and simple diamond (although there could be a glare and that could simply be a band). Another potential explanation is that she turned her ring over to avoid paparazzi photos of it.

If that’s the case, it’s likely Lawrence will debut her new hardware properly at the Oscars, which airs on Sunday, February 24, on CBS at 5 p.m. PT/ 8 p.m. ET.

In the meantime, we’re keeping our (ring) fingers crossed for a better pic of that dazzler.
