Jason Momoa Was Too Broke to Fly Home During ‘Game of Thrones’ So He Did This Instead

There's a lot to love about Jason Momoa. He shaved off his signature beard for a good cause, he's besties with Emilia Clarke and he knows how to rock a pink scrunchie. But his life wasn't always fun and games.

The Aquaman actor recently revealed that during a break in filming the first season of Game of Thrones, he couldn't afford a plane ticket back home. (We're assuming this was before his paycheck came in.) So, instead of flying back to see his family, he rented a van with his friend, producer Brian Andrew Mendoza, and drove around Ireland. The duo slept on a mattress in the back of the vehicle.

The star posted a throwback snap of himself in the van on Instagram, captioning the shot: "We were [too] broke to fly home so we rented a panel van aka UHAUL in Belfast and drove around beautiful amazing IRELAND searching for the greatest pint of Guinness. Turns out it's perfect everywhere."

The star told followers that he was feeling "homesick" at the moment while filming Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s bestselling novel Dune. He was looking through his phone when he came across the old photo.

He added: "So many wonderful people and stories I treasure those times It was the simplest moments I remember the most. I still miss my family. Been a long road and I feel like I’m just getting started."

Missing home is never fun, but honestly? Driving around Ireland with your best friend and drinking Guinness sounds like a pretty good way to spend off-work hours to us.
