If you A) love Ikea, and B) love free, next day shipping, then listen up, folks:
The Swedish furniture giant recently announced that it will be toying with selling their Scandi home goods via third party retailers starting in 2018. While no names or specifics have been released yet, power-players like Amazon and Alibaba are the widely presumed outlets for this experiment. As Ikea's Chief Executive, Torbjörn Lööf told the Financial Times, the decision to widen the net in this fashion is "the biggest development in how consumers meet Ikea since the concept was founded." Whoa.
With hundreds of stores worldwide, and global site visit in the double billions last year, you may be asking "why such a ballsy move?". The answer? Well, apparently Ikea wants to adapt to meet the changing ways people are shopping...which increasingly happens to be from our couches.
