For the love of all things 1990s: The Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot is not only happening, but also production is set to begin on Monday—this, according to Kelly Taylor, ahem, Jennie Garth, who caught up with PureWow exclusively about her return to the hit show.
During our chat, Garth—who’s partnering with Kinder Joy to celebrate their second birthday and collaboration with The Birthday Party Project, a non-profit that brings joy to homeless children through birthday celebrations—acknowledged what everyone else is thinking: It’s quite a feat to get the entire cast (Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Ian Ziering, Shannen Doherty, Gabrielle Carteris and Brian Austin Green) back together. But that difficulty is also what makes a return to the ultra-famous California zip code all the more special.
So, how did she do it? Given that it was Garth and Spelling’s (who played Donna Martin) idea to revive the hit teen drama, they relied on a pretty direct tactic to get the whole gang to sign on: “Tori and I were in touch a lot—and others were in touch, too, but scattered about,” Garth says. “Getting everyone on board started as a group text. ‘Let's get together and have a glass of wine and catch up.’ That’s when we made our pitch and it started to morph into a real opportunity for everyone.”
She adds: “It really does take a lot of effort to see people, but these are the kinds of friendships that were formed at such a developmental time in our lives. It’s a bond that’s impossible to describe. Even though we don’t see each other, when we get together, it’s like no time has passed.”
Oh, to be a fly on the wall of that wine-packed reunion. August 7—the show’s premiere date on Fox—can’t come soon enough.
