Leave It to Gwyneth Paltrow to Reinvent the Naked Dress

At this point we are well versed in the naked dress. Beyoncé's worn them, Bella Hadid's worn them, Rihanna's definitely worn them. They typically take the form of a curve-hugging silhouette with strategically placed gems, sequins or lace. At this point they're rarely even considered edgy or daring anymore. But perhaps we shouldn't be so quick to dismiss the sartorial power of a truly innovative naked dress, and who better to show us the error of our ways than lifestyle guru Gwyneth Paltrow?

The award-winning actress attended this year's Golden Globes in an unlined, latte-hued tulle gown by Fendi paired with a matching bra and panties. Of course a naked dress will always be sexy, but it wasn't until seeing this fluffy, flirty number that we realized just how fun they could be, too.

Giant sleeves, a high neck and lines of ruffles add whimsy to a dress that otherwise bares it all. Even her bra was ruffled making it a much funner choice than any of the more obvious choices, like a bustier or push-up. And although we knew her legs were bare, it wasn't until she started walking, along the red carpet or on stage to present an award, that we really got the full effect of her sheer gown.

Paltrow accessorized with not one, but two glittering Bulgari diamond necklaces tucked under a collar matching dangling statement earrings and a few delicate rings.

As often happens when celebs opt for more fashion-forward looks, Paltrow's barely-there frock was met with mixed reviews on social media. But if there's one thing she's is known for it's being unafraid to embrace the odd, the unexpected and the avant garde. Way to do you, Gwyneth. Here's to new bold future of the naked dress.
