Greta Gerwig Debuts New Hollywood Blonde ’Do at the Oscars

Greta Gerwig decided to look on the bright side this Academy Awards season.

Oscar snub aside, the 36-year-old Little Women director lightened up her blonde hairdo ahead of the 92nd Academy Awards with a little help from Nine Zero One salon’s Aleksey Bishop.

Bishop explained the reason for Gerwig’s Hollywood-inspired blonde shift via a Celebeauty Sit-Down email to PureWow. “For Greta’s color we didn’t want to change it too much,” he explained. “In the past, Greta had her base softened, which tends to pull a lot of warmth. I wanted to achieve as much of a cool tone blonde that’s possible from one sitting. I went through and did a full head highlight on her to make her nice and bright for the Oscars ceremony!” Spoiler alert: It definitely had the intended effect.

The celebrity hairstylist noted that Gerwig, who shares an 11-month-old child with her fiancé Noah Baumbach, wanted to add a little oomph to her look

“I think having some golden tones in the hair can make it look a little more natural. We made it more cool toned because we weren’t necessarily looking to make it look natural,” Bishop said. “She wanted something a little more fun and out there.”

To achieve the buttery hue, Bishop mixed a little Kevin Murphy cream bleach and Redken Demi-permanent color and styled her up with Virtue Split End Serum ($40), dpHUE Color Fresh Oil ($35) and COLORWOW Dream Coat Spray ($28). Talk about red carpet ready.

Now, all that’s missing is a little gold statue for Little Women…no shade, Academy.
