Maybe you think of Google Maps as just “that directions app that's not Waze.” But it wants to be so much more. So, starting this summer, the redesigned “Explore” tab is going to recommend dining, event and activity options that are curated just for you.
Just click on the tab, and Google Maps will use a combination of local experts, proprietary algorithms and trusted publishers to recommend places nearby you’ll like. Tap on any choice, and the app will give you a “match” rating—the percentage likelihood you’ll enjoy the experience. Another especially handy feature: You can long press on several places to make a shareable shortlist for friends and family to vote on.
You can even cross places off your curated list, so that you know you're almost done with, say, the definitive ice cream crawl of the West Side. Or whatever Google Maps and you decide to make your jam.
