HBO Max just released another full-length teaser for the upcoming GoT prequel, House of the Dragon.
The streaming platform dropped a brand-new trailer for the highly-anticipated series, which will premiere on August 21. The show will feature a glimpse of the House of Targaryen before they lost the throne. Although it’s set in the Westeros universe, it will take place 200 years before the events in GoT, so don’t expect to see too many familiar faces.
In the trailer, Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) is put under scrutiny after naming his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), the heir instead of another male relative, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith).
“The dream...it was clearer than a memory,” Viserys says in the clip. “And I heard the sound of thundering hooves, splintering shields and ringing swords. And I placed my heir upon the Iron Throne, and all the dragons roared as one.”
This isn’t the first teaser that HBO Max has released for House of the Dragon. Earlier this year, the streaming service debuted a shorter clip that teased what’s to come in the prequel.
In the trailer, viewers are introduced to the backlash Princess Rhaenyra receives after being named heir. “Men would sooner put the realm to the torch,” someone says, “than see a woman ascend the Iron Throne.” Another person adds, “History does not remember blood.”
Other House of the Dragon cast members include Olivie Cooke (Ready Player One) as Alicent Hightower, Eve Best (Nurse Jackie) as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) as Otto Hightower, Sonoya Mizuno (Crazy Rich Asians) as Mysaria and Fabien Frankel (Last Christmas) as Ser Criston Cole. The series is being helmed by showrunners Ryan Condal (Colony) and Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones), along with GoT author George R.R. Martin.
House of the Dragon is based on Martin's book, Fire and Blood, and it looks like we’re going to see a lot of both.
