Gabrielle Union just celebrated Mother’s Day with a candid post about her mixed feelings.
Yesterday, the Bring it On alum, 45, shared a heartfelt message on her personal Instagram account. The post includes a montage of videos featuring her mini-me daughter, Kaavia (2), along with a caption about why Mother’s Day will always be a bittersweet holiday for Union.
Union wrote, “My journey to motherhood was long, arduous and at many times extremely painful. Mother's Day will always be a challenging day to celebrate for me. I know I'm not alone in this feeling. For many reasons, so many of us have a rough time today and to these good people, I send all my love, light and compassion.”
The actress concluded with a special message for all types of motherly figures, adding, “To all the Moms, Stepmoms, Bonus Mom’s, Folks who Mother those that need it, Grandma’s, House Mothers, I celebrate you today and every day. Be good to yourselves.”
Union’s followers immediately flooded the comments section with words of support. Ava DuVernay wrote, “Bless you and happy day!” Journalist Jemele Hill added, “Happy Mother’s Day Gab! I know so many women out there are so grateful that you’ve been so transparent about your journey to motherhood. You have been incredible Mom, Bonus Mom and everything else. You deserve this: HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY.”
