For the past three years, Gabrielle Union has fought a silent battle with her body, braving miscarriage after miscarriage and trying to remain strong along the way.
In her new book, We’re Going to Need More Wine, the 44-year-old Being Mary Jane star heartbreakingly revealed, “I have had eight or nine miscarriages.” Union, who married NBA player Dwayne Wade in 2014, described her seemingly endless journey with infertility in candid detail, writing, “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant—I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle or coming out of an IVF cycle.”
The Bring It On alum shared that she initially didn’t envision having children of her own when she married Wade. That is until she became a stepmom to Wade’s three sons from previous relationships— Zaire (15), Zion (10) and Xavier (3)—and his nephew Dahveon Morris (16). The taste of domesticity left Wade and Union eager to bring their own child into the world.
Though the struggle of conceiving hasn’t been easy for the couple, Union says they “remain bursting with love and ready to do anything to meet the child we’ve both dreamed of.”
We’re sending lots of love and support to Union and Wade as they continue to grow their beautiful family.
