The First Trailer for Mindy Kaling’s ‘Four Weddings & a Funeral’ Is Here & It’s Nothing Like the Original

If you love Mindy Kaling, then feast your eyes on the all-new miniseries she co-created: Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Hulu just dropped the first official trailer for the highly anticipated show, and it appears to have very little in common with the 1994 British movie, which was written by Richard Curtis. (You’ve been warned.)

In the trailer, we’re introduced to a group of four lifelong friends—Maya (Nathalie Emmanuel), Craig (Brandon Mychal Smith), Ainsley (Rebecca Rittenhouse) and Duffy (John Paul Reynolds)—who’ve managed to stay close despite going their separate ways.

When they reunite for a fancy London wedding, they struggle to balance their old lives with their new ones.

“Do we really have to go to this party? Your friends don’t even like me,” Gemma (Zoe Boyle) says in the clip. “They think I’m trashy and that my boobs are fake, which they are, but your friends don’t know that.”

When old memories begin to surface, the characters are faced with endless “what ifs.” “Have you ever had the feeling you’ve gone down the wrong path?” Maya says. “Like somewhere along the line you’ve made a bad choice and now it’s too late to go back?”

The teaser also features a cameo by Carrie (Andie MacDowell), who is taking on an all-new role: mother of the bride.

So, where do the four weddings and a funeral fit in to the story line? We have absolutely no idea, but we’ll be watching to find out.

Four Weddings and a Funeral will premiere on July 31 on Hulu.
