Fox got the scoop from the Television Academy on the true meaning behind the color change. The hue represents royalty and this year they're honoring Hollywood's royalty (aka Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Viola Davis and Henry Winkler, to name a few) as they make their way inside to celebrate this year's nominated shows and actors. Also, perhaps the Emmys got inspired by a few of their nominated hit series. (Hello, Game of Thrones and Beyonce's Homecoming? That just screams royalty.)
Celebrities will walk through Fox's Garden before ascending to the 100-foot carpet for interviews (and those iconic outfit photos) and making their way inside. There are a ton of places, like the IMDB lounge, that are also decked out in purple to keep up with the theme. According to Deadline, Fox is providing a makeup touch-up station (since the L.A. heat is no joke) in addition to a wardrobe and hair station, so everyone looks perfect.
It's not the first time the carpet switched it up. Last year, the carpet was gold (in honor of the infamous award and just an overall joyful shade), which worked well with the trendiest color worn from GOT fave Gwendoline Christie to GLOW superstar Alison Brie.
We look forward to seeing how the carpet will complement the outfits this year (and maybe even get a matching purple moment, too).
