Emmys 2017 Recap: The Firsts, the Broken Records and the Unsolicited Kisses
The 2017 Emmys flew by faster than the first season of Big Little Lies, and, boy, were they chock-full of surprises.
The annual awards show, hosted by Late Show star Stephen Colbert, touted some cheer-worthy firsts, a couple of record-breaking moments, a bizarre meltdown and an awkward kiss that raised more than a few lightly Botoxed eyebrows. Here, the full recap—winners, sore losers and beyond—of the 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
NICOLE KIDMAN & ALEXANDER SKARSGÅRD SHARED A KISS...ON THE LIPS
In front of Keith Urban, no less.
And Julia Louis-Dreyfus Made History For Winning the Most Awards for the Same Role
Though this time she delivered her speech without Gary (Tony Hale) whispering in her ear.
Donald Glover Became the First Black Director to Win for a Comedy Series
He also announced he’s expecting his second child. Double whammy.
And Lena Waithe Became the First Black Woman to Win an Emmy for Comedy Writing
All we can say is, “Denise!!!!!”
And Goddesses Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin & Jane Fonda Reunited
Workin’ nine to five still looks damn good.
JACKIE HOFFMAN TOTALLY LOST IT WHEN LAURA DERN WON Outstanding SUPPORTING ACTRESS
In sore loser news, the Feud: Bette and Joan actress yelled, “Damn it! Damn it!” when Dern won. She then went on a truly absurd Twitter rampage.
And Reese Witherspoon Channeled Elle Woods to Deal With Her Loss
At least Big Little Lies won!
And Everyone Thanked Oprah
Because she was in the front row and because why not?
