Ellen DeGeneres Just Dedicated an Honorary Bathroom to Dame Emma Thompson

Dame Emma Thompson got way more than she asked for when she paid a visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

On today’s episode of the daytime talk show, the host celebrated the actress’s upcoming 60th birthday on April 15 with a surprise tribute. However, this wasn’t any ordinary present—like the wildlife foundation that Portia de Rossi set up for DeGeneres’s 60th.

Instead, the daytime host dedicated a bathroom to Thompson. (Because why not?)

In the clip, Thompson begins by discussing her dame ceremony with Prince William. When the daytime host asks her thoughts on turning 60, the actress hesitantly responds, “Well, yeah. Um, it’s difficult, isn’t it?”

Thompson goes on to explain that she’s struggling to find herself as she approaches this new milestone, which prompts DeGeneres to present her with an honorary gift.

“This is exciting,” the host says. “So, you became a dame, which—of course—is a big deal. But we are doing something for you that we’ve never done for anyone here.”

Cut to two royal guards standing in the studio’s bathroom, unveiling a large plaque that says, “The Dame Emma Thompson Loo. Dedicated April 12, 2019.”

“That will stay there forever,” DeGeneres confirms.

The news comes just five months after Thompson received her damehood at Buckingham Palace, where she tried (and failed) to kiss Prince William when he presented her with the honor.

She said, “I love Prince William. I’ve known him since he was little, and we just sniggered at each other. I said, ‘I can’t kiss you, can I?’ And he said, ‘No, don’t!’”

Maybe he’ll change his mind now that she has a loo named after her?
