Eminem and Beyoncé just got super deep and personal together—on a new single they just released today.
In their new song, “Walk on Water,” the music icons speak on the pressures of fame and their fans’ inclination to hold them to a godlike standard.
Beyoncé’s angelic voice opens the track as she sings that she “walks on water” but she “ain’t no Jesus.” Next, Eminem launches into a raw expression of the pressures he feels to be perfect via his signature rhythm and rhymes. His thoughts on fans looking to him as the gold standard of music? He raps, “it’s a facade and it’s exhaustive.”
Bey chimes in with a reminder that although she is widely regarded as a queen, she’s but a mere mortal. She sings, “I walk on water / But only when it freezes / ’Cause I’m only human, just like you.”
And she further attempts self-deprecation with the lyrics, “Making my mistakes, oh if you only knew / I don’t think you should believe in me the way that you do / ’Cause I’m terrified to let you down.”
Beyoncé and Eminem may be only human, but they are damn talented humans.
