Emily Blunt is just a spoonful of sugar in the new Mary Poppins Returns behind-the-scenes photos revealed by Entertainment Weekly today.
Disney's long-awaited sequel takes place 25 years after the 1964 classic and revisits Cherry Tree Lane, the home of the Banks family. Now all grown up, the Bankses are in major need of their former nanny's magical TLC. Jane Banks (Emily Mortimer), newly widowed Michael (Ben Whishaw), household maid Ellen (Julie Walters) and the newest generation of Banks children welcome Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) with open arms back into their home.
Rob Marshall (Into the Woods) directs, and additional cast members include Meryl Streep as Mary Poppins's cousin Topsy, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack (a character reminiscent of chimney sweep Bert), Colin Firth as William Weatherall Wilkins and Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Lady. Dick Van Dyke, who originally played Bert, will portray Mr. Dawes Jr. in this version.
We still have to wait 18 months for those adorable dancing penguins and intoxicatingly cheerful songs, but we'll be first in line for Mary Poppins Returns come Christmas 2018.
