Ellen DeGeneres set her funny hat aside and opened today’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show with a heartwarming message of love and hope following Sunday’s mass shooting in Las Vegas.
The comedienne-cum-talk-show-host appeared to be overcome with emotion as she addressed the audience, saying, “I am hoping we can fill this room with love and prayers and hope.”
DeGeneres explained although the show would air Tuesday, October 3, it was actually filmed Monday, October 2—the day after the deadly shooting occurred. She shared, “My heart is broken for everyone affected by what happened there.”
The host then switched gears to remind us that good still exists in the world and played a video montage featuring some of Ellen's most impactful guests. If you haven't heard about Renita Smith, the heroic Maryland bus driver, we highly suggest you get familiar.
DeGeneres concluded, “The world is full of amazing people. Good will always win. Love will always win. We will continue to shine a light on those people on our show.”
