Singer Ed Sheeran lent his vocal talent to the season seven premiere of Game of Thrones last night and the internet had a lot to say about it...

With a story line as complex as in Game of Thrones, it seems quite possible that if you so much as blink during an episode, you’re liable to miss a death, plot twist and/or sudden rise to power. However, no one seemed to miss Sheeran's brief cameo.

Sheeran appeared early on in the episode as a Lannister soldier hanging out with his comrades, singing (natch) and cooking a rabbit on a spit when Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) comes along. He asks Arya what her business is in King's Landing and she replies she plans to kill the queen. The Lannister soldiers think this must be a joke and all share a good laugh. (She's not kidding, btw.) End scene.

So what's the big internet brouhaha about? GoT fans claim that hearing and seeing the pop star in Westeros was the end of the world ruined their serious Seven Kingdoms vibe and disrupted their viewing experience. It's interesting that no one seemed to bat an eyelash when Coldplay drummer Will Champion or the bands Sigur Rós and Of Monsters and Men appeared with their musical finesse in past episodes, but it seems that Ed Sheeran just can’t catch a break lately.

ICYMI here's what Sheeran's Game of Thrones cameo looked like.

And here's everything GoT fans had to say about his little vignette.

So what did you think about Sheeran's foray into the Seven Kingdoms?
