What do you get when you put a curling wand, flat iron and hair dryer in one sleek device? OK, we’ll just tell you: the Dyson Airstyler. Cue trumpets. Throw the confetti. But seriously, this nifty little gadget is cause for celebration for the styling impaired and those strapped for time. (So that means most of us, right?)
The nuts and bolts: The multitasking tool took six years, 642 prototypes and 230 engineers and scientists to create. Each Airstyler comes with different attachments, including multiple kinds of brush heads (paddle and round), but we’re most excited about the clipless curling iron, which creates effortless ringlets by drawing each section of hair toward the barrel and wrapping it around without your help. (You’ve got to see it in action because it’s really hard to believe.)
We’re told this bit of mind-bending sorcery is thanks to something called the Coanda effect, which is what creates aerodynamic lift in airplanes. All we’ll say is this: It’s the first hair tool we’ve tried that doesn’t make us feel inept.
