Drew Barrymore Celebrates Birthday with a ‘You’ Surprise from Penn Badgley
On today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the talk show host received the ultimate surprise in honor of her 48th birthday. Barrymore was blindfolded, locked in a glass box and then taunted by none other than Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley).
In the clip, co-host Ross Mathews blindfolds Barrymore and leads her into a glass cage before chaining her and locking the door. “This is the most exciting, blindfolded experience I’ve ever had,” she says.
Mathews instructs Barrymore to remove her blindfold and reveals that she’s in for quite the surprise. “So, Drew, you are, of course, in a glass cage because we know that you love a certain show,” he says. “So, we brought You to you.”
Right on cue, Mathews invites Badgley onto the stage. Understandably, Barrymore is beside herself and falls to the floor in excitement.
“It’s not supposed to be this way,” Badgley jokingly says while sliding a birthday gift through a small slit in the glass. “You’re not supposed to want this!”
Barrymore’s response? “You know me so well,” she says in admiration.
Badgley recently made headlines after an episode of his podcast where the actor revealed that he was uncomfortable with the number of sex scenes in You. So, he asked series creator Sera Gamble to eliminate as many as possible in the fourth season. Clearly, the lack of intimate scenes in the latest iteration hasn’t deterred die-hard fans like Barrymore.
You season 4 premiered on Netflix earlier this month, but it only included the first five episodes. The second half will debut on March 9, so mark your calendars.
