The First Full-Length ‘Aladdin’ Trailer Is Finally Here, and Will Smith’s Genie Is Basically a Blue Hitch

We guess the magic lamp was listening, because Disney’s live-action Aladdin trailer is finally here.

There’s enough bang for your buck in the two-minute trailer: We get Aladdin (Mena Massoud) as the street-bred hooligan, Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) and the cave of wonders, Jasmine (Naomi Scott), the very blue Genie (Will Smith), the magic carpet and a glimpse of the Disney original songs that will truly take you back to your childhood (“A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me” both get teased in the clip).

Our favorite part? Smith’s Genie basically channeling a blue Hitch, his title character in the 2005 rom-com. “There’s a lot of gray area in ‘make me a prince,’” the Genie retorts. “I could just (*snaps fingers*) make you a prince,” and just like that, a dude looking for his palace appears on a rock nearby.

“Showtime!” he says to Aladdin in another scene, with Jasmine standing nearby. He waves his magic fingers as Aladdin slides magically toward her. See? Disney + Hitch = Aladdin. And we can’t wait to see what other scheme that blue guy has up his sleeves (cuffs?).

Aladdin hits theaters May 24, 2019.
