Eminem, Who? Cynthia Erivo Rocks the Oscars with Live Performance

After watching Eminem perform his Oscar-winning song “Lose Yourself” 17 years late, we thought it would for sure be one of the most talked-about moments from this year's Academy Awards. That was until Cynthia Erivo took the stage.

The hugely talented singer and actress performed “Stand Out” from the film Harriet and totally wowed audiences. Erivo was nominated for both best original song as well as best actress for her role as Harriet Tubman in the same film.

The only person of color to be nominated for an Oscar in this year's acting categories, the star received a standing ovation from the crowd as she belted out the song's powerful lyrics.

Erivo and her songwriting partners from Harriet ultimately lost out to Elton John for “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman. (Interestingly, both Erivo and John are only one award away from being an EGOT winner.)
