Just when we got used to matcha, a new (and much, much weirder) way to get our caffeine fix has officially surfaced: cheese-topped tea. Yep. The latest tea trend is floating across the Pacific from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong right to American shorelines.
What the heck is cheese tea? Welp, it’s a flavored tea with a dollop of whipped white cheese on top. Looks like milk foam, tastes like…Parmesan? Heytea, a popular Chinese teahouse, sells the drink in varieties like matcha, oolong, jasmine and black, all topped with frothy cheese.
How does it taste? The word on the street is that it’s kind of like a tea-tinged milk shake.
Hmm. We’re intrigued. And confused. And a little terrified. But hey, we’ll try anything once.
