The Biggest Beauty Trend to Emerge from the 2020 Chanel Cruise Show Is Goth & Glossy

From lip liner sans lipstick to bedazzled barrettes, several tokens of yesteryear have made their way back into the good graces of fashionistas this season. After the Chanel 2020 cruise collection show, we know which trend from our angsty teenage years is next in line for a major comeback.

Today, the iconic fashion house transformed the Le Grand Palais in Paris into a Belle Époque wonderland at the behest of new creative director, Virginie Viard. While the black-and-white mod silhouettes paid homage to late creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, and the Benton stripes and boxy tweed suits were very Coco Chanel, the black glossy lip introduced by Chanel makeup and color designer Lucia Pica was of a different era entirely.

Pica juxtaposed the classically coquettish cap-toe Chanel booties and feminine pastels and florals with a high-gloss high-drama goth lip. Needless to say, the dark beauty look certainly stood out.

She created the black pouts with a hint of oxblood, by layering the Rouge Allure Velvet Extrême lip color and liner in Rouge Obscure with the Rouge Coco Gloss in Laque Noire, both of which will become available this fall.

Models’ skin was kept translucent with Chanel Eau de Teint and Baume Essentiel, making the dramatic lips pop even more.

Also of note were the Jackie-O-on-holiday-in-Greece head scarves, which we absolutely look forward toto wearing (with the sole purpose of discreetly covering second-day blowouts).

The Cruise 2020 collection marks the second runway show since Lagerfeld’s death. The grandfather of fashion passed this past February at the age of 85.

There you have it: Goth is back with a high fashion twist.
