Carrie Underwood performed a touching tribute to the victims of the October 1, Las Vegas, Nevada, mass shooting during last night’s Country Music Awards and there was not a dry eye in the room.
The “Church Bells” crooner sang the hymn “Softly and Tenderly” during the award show's in memoriam segment and became emotional toward the end of the song as images of the 58 victims appeared on the screen behind her.
For the tenth year in a row, Brad Paisley joined Underwood as her CMA co-host. The pair opened the show with a message of hope for the families and victims of this year’s many shootings. Underwood said, “This has been a year marked by tragedy, impacting countless lives, including so many in our country music family. So tonight, we’re going to do what families do. Come together, pray together, cry together and sing together, too.”
Bless your heart, Carrie Underwood.
