Emma Stone and Steve Carell face off for the match of a lifetime in the trailer for their newest dramedy, Battle of the Sexes. The comedic duo play Billie Jean King (the Serena Williams of her day) and former Wimbledon champion Bobby Riggs in this retelling of the legendary 1973 match that marked one small step for women’s sports and one giant leap for women’s equality.
From the directors of Little Miss Sunshine, the September 22 slated biopic recounts Riggs's declaration that he could beat any female tennis player, queen among them King. For those keeping score, the pronouncement from the self-proclaimed male chauvinist (Riggs) against the staunch, badass feminist (King), set a rapidly growing fire ablaze. BJK, who happened to be a far superior tennis player to Riggs, finally agreed to a televised match at the Houston Astrodome. Ninety million people tuned in to watch King absolutely eviscerate Riggs in what is now known as "The Mother's Day Massacre."
The film also stars Elisabeth Shue, Sarah Silverman, Alan Cumming, Bill Pullman, Andrea Riseborough and Eric Christian Olsen.
