‘The Bachelor’ Episode 9 Recap: The Desperate Ex-Boyfriend
*Warning: Spoilers ahead*
This week on season 22, episode nine of The Bachelor, Arie Luyendyk Jr. takes the final three women to Peru for the overnight dates. When a mystery man shows up and threatens his happily-ever-after, Arie is forced to make a last-minute decision that could end in heartbreak. Here’s what went down.
Kendall Meets the Fantasy Suite
Arie kicks things off by taking Kendall to go buggy riding in the Peruvian sand dunes. After driving around the hilly terrain, they sit down for an impromptu picnic. Arie asks Kendall how she felt about the hometown date, which prompts her to admit that they still have a lot to learn about each other.
Later that night, the couple sits down for dinner in a tiki hut. Kendall opens up about the drama that unfolded in last week’s episode and explains that she felt slightly guilty for “taking” the rose from Tia. When Arie assures her that he sees something special in their relationship, Kendall finally confesses her feelings and says she’s falling in love with him.
Right on cue, the fantasy suite card appears out of nowhere, and Kendall happily agrees to forgo their individual rooms.
The next day, the couple appears happier than ever. Kendall doesn’t hold back on gushing over her feelings, and Arie returns the favor and (gasp!) says he’s falling in love with her, too.
Lauren B. Tells All
Next up? Lauren B. This time, Arie takes her on a private jet tour of the Nazca Lines. Per usual, the date is pretty dang boring. When they return to solid ground, Lauren B. shocks us all (including Arie) and says she’s still hesitant about their relationship. Although Arie tries to reassure her about his feelings, she counters that her uncertainty is only getting stronger as the finale nears.
At dinner, Arie says he knows she’s holding back, and Lauren blames it on her strong feelings for him. Arie goes on to profess his feelings and drops the L-bomb before presenting her with the fantasy suite card, which is accepted with zero hesitation.
In the morning, the couple appears happy as can be as they lie in bed and confess their love for each other (yet again).
Becca Seals the Deal
Last but not least, Arie takes Becca K. on a boat adventure around the Ballestas Islands. OK, we’d be lying if we didn’t admit that these two are, like, the cutest thing ever. Arie says Becca is his most comfortable relationship, and it clearly shows.
When Arie asks her if she’s comfortable with long distance, she talks about her previous seven-year relationship and assures him that she is willing to do anything to make it work. Awwww.
That night, they sit down for a romantic dinner under the stars, where Arie discusses his fear of choosing the wrong person. Becca says she felt at ease from the moment she stepped out of the limo and admits that the hometown date confirmed she’s in love with him.
Arie eats it up and says he’s in love with her, too. To no surprise, they promptly head to the fantasy suite.
The Unwanted Visitor
Suddenly, disaster strikes. Becca’s ex-boyfriend Ross randomly shows up in Peru to win her back. After pushing past producers, he knocks on Arie’s door and asks to chat. He says he recently found out that Becca is on the show and wants to get back together with her.
When Ross confronts Becca, she becomes extremely upset and demands to know why he’s there. He begs her to take him back before revealing he wants to marry her. When Becca learns about his visit with Arie, she tells him she doesn’t want to be with him and asks him to leave.
Becca attempts to smooth things over with Arie, but he can’t seem to get over the fact that Ross flew all the way to Peru to win her back. After pressing her on whether or not she’s actually over her ex, they awkwardly part ways, leaving Arie to wonder if Becca is ready for a proposal.
At the rose ceremony, Arie sends Kendall home.
Be sure to tune in to ABC next Monday at 8 p.m. for the three-hour season finale of The Bachelor.
